Legalisation requirements for Taipei (Taiwan)
Document for use in Taiwan first needs to be legalised by way of FCDO Apostille and then submitted to the Taipei Representative Office in the United Kingdom for further attestation.
FEES
The consular fee is £12 per document for standard service or £18 per document for express service.
PROCESSING TIME
The consular legalisation processing time is around 10 working days for the standard service and 5 working days for the express service.
IMPORTANT NOTES
A photocopy of the document is required upon submission to the Consulate.
The Applicant and Agent’s passport copies and company Certificate of Incorporation (as applicable) are required upon submission to the Consulate together with the Application Form and Letter of Authorisation duly completed and signed by the applicant.
The Consulate requires the applicant’s signature on the letter of authorisation to be certified by a practising solicitor or notary public confirming the authenticity of such signature. The letter of authorisation must refer to its expiry date and is not required to be Apostilled once notarised.
For personal documents such as a school letter/ educational certificate/ qualification certificate, the English notary public must certify that confirmation of the authenticity from the awarding body has been established.
Documents which can be Apostilled directly by the FCDO (e.g. UK Birth, Marriage, Death, Certificate of No Impediment, ACRO Criminal Records) cannot be certified by a notary public or solicitor. The Consulate requires the Apostille attesting to the UK public official’s signature.
If certifying a copy of document, the practising solicitor or notary public MUST verify the authenticity and content of the document with the issuing authority/institution and make a statement confirming that the verification has been carried out and that such document is genuine and authentic as issued by the relevant authority/institution. Just the statement such as a “true copy of the original” is not acceptable by the Taipei Representative Office in the UK.
The Taipei Representative Office in London has jurisdiction for the legalisation of documents issued in the British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies (except Isle of Man), Ghana, the Seychelles and Sierra Leone.
Documents with a connection to places in north of Durham, including Cumbria and Scotland, must be sent to the Taipei Representative Office in Edinburgh, which also has jurisdiction for the Isle of Man.
