As per Circular 766 (Arab-British Chamber of Commerce), documents containing handwritten amendments/insertions will not be accepted for legalisation. The whole content/text, except for the actual signature(s), must be entirely in print/typed in, including any internal references.
All commercial documents such as Powers of Attorney/Authorisation of Agent, to be legalised for Iraq should contain the registration number and UK address of any company mentioned within the document, as well as the passport/ID number of any individuals named in the text.
As per circular 140322, for legalisation of commercial documents, one of the directors of the UK company must write and sign an authorisation letter (We can provide the template upon request) authorising the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce to get the documents legalised by the Iraqi Consulate. For the legalisation of a commercial Power of Attorney/Authorisation Letter, the director must make a statement verifying the authenticity of the Power of Attorney/Authorisation Letter and include also the following information (as per template we provide):
- The name of the company that has issued the document,
- The company’s address,
- List the name(s) of the company’s director(s),
- List the director(s)’s email address(es) and telephone number(s).
If the document is a private Power of Attorney, the executant must attend the Consulate in person with their original passport to be identified by the consular officer. We can also attend with the executant, if necessary, and collect the legalised document when ready.
The legalisation of UK educational documents is required to be submitted through the Iraqi Cultural Attaché only. There is a separate application form in Arabic language to be completed by the document holder. Prior certification by a UK notary or solicitor is not required nor the FCDO Apostille. The educational documents can be submitted directly to the Iraqi Cultural Attaché and they will perform the necessary verification with the UK universities and attest the academic documents upon receiving the confirmation of authenticity from the university.
For the legalisation of Certificate of Origin and Invoices, the company must obtain the certificate of origin in a specific format provided by the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce. Once issued and stamped by them, we can assist with the submission directly to the Iraqi Embassy Commercial Attaché for the final attestation (no FCDO Apostille is required for these types of documents).
Any foreign document is not accepted by the Consulate, including company documents if the company is not incorporated in the UK.
The Consulate requires a copy of passport from the document holder as well as from the Agent attending on behalf of the document holder.
