Legalisation requirements for Vietnam
Document for use in Vietnam first needs to be legalised by way of FCDO Apostille and then submitted to the Consulate of Vietnam for further attestation.
Hague Apostille Convention
On 31 December 2025, Vietnam deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Apostille Convention. The Convention will enter into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. A Member of the HCCH since 2013, Vietnam is now a contracting party to four HCCH Conventions.
Detailed guidelines for implementation are still pending. We will continue to monitor developments and update on practical document legalisation for Vietnam.
Until then, the consular legalisation process remain effective.
